The On The Soil Lacks For Life On Mars Essay - 1342 Words

The soil lacks in nutrients. Therefore, greenhouses would have to be built and constructed in a way that the plants can adapt to the environment in almost a similar way to Earth. This would allow the plants to grow on Mars and over some time, create food for life on Mars. To have this greenhouse on Mars it would help grow plants for food, recycling and for replenishing the air. The main disadvantage to easily growing plants on Mars is the low atmospheric pressure that would make the plants act as if they are quickly drying out and dying. To get around this issue on Mars, we would have to be able to control the air pressure in the greenhouse. Scientists have stated that â€Å"A hydroponics system allows the plants to grow without soil, while artificial light ensures the plants are able to grow efficiently†. The food planted needs to have enough nutrients in its roots to be able to grow and have enough nutrients for humans to survive. For human survival, we would have to plant enough plants for some to be used as creating oxygen in the atmosphere and the edible portion to our nutrition. This would keep us healthy on Mars and be able to survive. Surprisingly enough, the Martian soil contains nutrients that is even more nourished than some of Earth’s soils. This means that the soil doesn’t lack any nutrients to grow food, it is the excessive volume of Perchlorate chemicals which would cause adverse effects on a human’s health. On Mars, as the plant grows, it starts to absorb theShow MoreRelatedThe Environment And Its Effects On The Natural Carbon Cycle1512 Words   |  7 Pagesenvironment. Reduced diet diversity will be a challenge while astro-farming on Martian soil. To keep the area small and combat this issue, an efficient Mars diet should be strictly vegan and will not include fruits orRead Moreâ€Å"I think humans will reach Mars, and I would like to see it happen in my lifetime† was said by Buzz1100 Words   |  5 Pagesâ€Å"I think humans will reach Mars, and I would like to see it happen in my lifetime† was said by Buzz Aldrin, a NASA astronaut. Country Versus City free essay sample

Country vs. City In the novel My Antonia by Willa Cather, Antonia Shimerda and Lena Lingard share a few similarities: they are both immigrants to America; they are both in their own way very beautiful women; and they are both very independent and accomplished women. However, they differ in personal appearance, lifestyle, and values. Antonia was very beautiful as a young girl, but as the years have passed, the struggles she has faced growing up in her life show in her outward appearance. She is missing teeth and her looks are rough, but just the same, she is a beautiful person on the inside. Antonia would rather struggle though life than to sacrifice her own independence. One such time would be when the Harlings told Antonia that she would have to stop going to the dances or she could find another place of employment. Antonia’s reply was â€Å"Then I’ll just leave, Mrs. We will write a custom essay sample on Country Versus City or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Harling. Mary Svoboda’s going away from the Cutter’s to work at the hotel and I can have her place† (133). As Antonia ages, she ends up back out on the farm where she feels the most at home. She marries and ends up raising a big family and teaching her children to help work on the farm. In contrast, Lena Lingard has steadily remained beautiful on the outside. She has a constant desire to be sophisticated and remain pretty. She craves a lot of excitement, which can’t be found on the prairie. Lena has become a very accomplished dressmaker and so she tends to dress very businesslike. Due to her ease and love of dressmaking, she has become very admired for her work. Lena also makes a vow that she will never marry because as she says â€Å"when I went to work for Mrs. Thomas I was nineteen years old, and I had never slept a night in my life when there weren’t three in the bed. I never had a minute to myself except when I was off with the cattle† (186). Lena had spent so much of her childhood being the older sibling. She was always caring for her younger siblings, helping to wash them, keeping their hands and faces clean, and was not able to take her bath until late at night when everyone else was in bed. In conclusion, even though there are a few similarities between Antonia Shimerda and Lena Lingard, such as their independence and accomplishments, they are very different from one another. Antonia likes the simple country look and Lena likes the more sophisticated business like look. Not only are their places of residence far different from one another, so are the lifestyles they live and the values upon which they build their lives.
